Library Director's Blog
2010 has been a challenging year for our Library, the community we serve, and our patrons. The economy has taken a tremendous toll on the resources available to the Library and we are doing all we can to stretch our budget. We've taken a hard look at the services that we offer to our patrons and have made cuts to non-essential services. We are optimistic that the economy will turn around soon and the Library will back to full operational capabilities. The areas hit hardest by the budget cuts were the Library's subscriptions to online database services and outreach services. Through our new website's capabilities we were able to identify several databases that were not being used by our patrons; databases that cost the Library thousands of dollars each year. Our new website has also fulfilled the needs of our former approach for outreach services. Through the capabilities of the website we can now deliver the same level of information and services to our patrons as we did in the past through costly mechanisms that are no longer needed. Next week my blog will focus on a more positive note, the addition of job search resources on the Library's website.

Storytime Featuring the Cat in the Hat
He may be an old standby, but he never lets us down! When in doubt, turn to the story of the cat that transformed a dull, rainy afternoon into a magical and just-messy-enough adventure. There's another, hidden adventure, too: this book really will help children learn to read. With his simple and often single-vowel vocabulary, the good Doctor knew what he was doing: Hear it, Learn it, Read it--Laughing all the way!
Visit the Library on Saturday at 11:00am for StoryTime with Jane!
